Read the article by Bill McKibben in Rolling Stone magazine, and never mind who's on the cover. The article is actually well-written (long) and well thought out. Kudos to RS for running it.

Nice Canadian boy who earned his stripes busking in Windsor (Ontario).  Good luck to both him and his hair.  Long may he pay Canadian taxes.

Hm, much too young and rather girly for me, and definitely not a fan of his music, but I don't know him so I can't make personal judgements.

On a somewhat related note, scientists agree that Pop Music is Too Loud and All Sounds the Same
As if we needed intensive research to come to this conclusion.

I agree with you, Lchx. He's too young, too girlie, I don't know him and I don't
even know his music too well. I don't judge him, either, but I don't understand all this idolising-him-thing either.

Yeah, the idolising is just...too much. But that's teenage girls, they'll always be idolising someone. I do think it's more upsetting, though, when it's adult women going crazy over him.

Are there adult women who are idolising him? I guess they are paedophiles.

I think they are. You know, if men were to idolise and go crazy over a teenage girl, they would instantly be called perverts, but women are allowed to drool over a teenage boy, no problem. *sigh* Oh, hypocrisy.

Young girls prefer boys or men who are more feminine and soft than rugged and virile. I suppose they seem less threatening, less sexual and more "romantic". When Star Wars came out in 1977, I was 19, and thought Harrison Ford was to die for. My younger friends couldn't stand him--they all drooled over Mark Hamill. Now I look back and think they're both too feminine for my taste. Give me John Cleese any day!

I seem to be an exception. I'm relatively young, I'd say (23), and I would take John Cleese over a man close to my age any day. Most of my friends around my age prefer young guys. The man I'm currently interested in is about 5 years older than me, and I think that's the youngest I would go for! (My last boyfriend was 10 years older). I like rugged, manly, and mature.

When I say "young", I mean the 13-17 year old set.

    I prefer older men, too.

I always have, too. Even when I was 13-17. I never liked the feminine sort of guys my friends always salivated over. I think my first big crush was on my junior high science teacher, I was 12 or 13, he was in his mid-late twenties. I thought he was super handsome and very smart, to die for! I think it's funny now, but at the time I was seriously infatuated!

I've always fancied older guys, too. (OK, OK, I fancied Mark Hamill as well, but I was only 9-year-old or so, when I first watched Star Wars - I was born in 1977, when it had been first released).

I had my first crush when I was 3 years old. I was smitten by Mighty Mouse. I was such a sucker for his operatic announcement: "Here I come to save the day!" I wanted to be his girlfriend, so he could whisk me away from the edge of the saw in the sawmill.

My first crush was on my step sister (she lived with her mom).  Linda was stunning even at 13 and went on to become the local Carnival Queen.  I believe to this day she could've made Miss Universe, but married young, for love, (to a skilled tradesman) and died of cancer, tragically, in her early mid 30's.  Her neice in Canada, also my neice, is just as stunning, also married young for love to a skilled tradesman.  The circle of life.

I think most of the females in this forum prefer the rugged/manly look on males.

When I was in middle school, the "cute boys" were Devon Sawa and Jonathan Taylor Thomas. I thought they looked like girls and said (several times), "Umm...if I'm going to like a girl, I'm going to like a GIRL. If I'm going to like a guy, I'm going to like a GUY!"

My thoughts exactly! I'm always telling my friends (many of whom prefer less-manly men) that if I'm going to go for such a feminine-looking man, I might as well just date a woman! Not going to happen! (not that I have anything against women who like women, just not my personal choice.) My taste for manly men is too strong.

When *I* was in school, the cute boys were cave men.

No, we had crushes on Davy Jones and the other Monkees; Paul McCartney (though I always preferred Harrison), Bobby Sherman, Donny Osmond (ew! not me!)...Davy really was a girl substitute, Bobby and Donny, a bit less so. Nothing girly about McCartney after he grew that beard.
